Abstract
This article presents a summary of the standard design procedures successfully used by several Brazilian utilities to control electromagnetic interferences in power plants, substations and telecommunication installations. Those users stated in articles and conferences that the reported procedures controlled very well the interference problems in their facilities. The article shows that usual cable shielding is able to control basically the noises caused by periodic disturbances such as short circuits and harmonics. The article comments also a set of design procedures that are necessary to control the effects of the aperiodic disturbances, such as discharges, switching and circuit braker operation.
