Abstract :
Summary form only given. The equation for the angular distribution of the emission spectrum generated by a single electron moving above the surface of a strip grating is given. The predictive power of the equation has been examined in the course of two recent experiments carried out with moderately relativistic electron beams. An experiment with a 50 MeV beam is in the development stage and progress on this experiment is summarized. The partial coherence of the spontaneous emission, which results when the beam micropulse length falls in the picosecond domain, is discussed. The relation between the equation and the stimulated emission rate is also summarized.
