Abstract
In this paper, the authors explore the accuracy of performance simulation program for trains in actual operation. They first study the details of push-pull type trains running in speed control mode to obtain the block diagram of train dynamics. Important features in speed control function such as dead-band and acceleration rate limits are included and function blocks are developed to represent actual behavior. Then they use MATLAB/SIMULINK(R) to implement the simulation program in a straightforward manner. Field Measurements of important variables like speed demand, train speed, traction demand and line voltage were taken to validate the simulation results
