Abstract
An efficient method for predicting the performance of switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive has been of great interest to many researchers. The method could be used for the motor design optimization and refinement in the drive control strategies aiming at better performance of the drive. In this paper the method of magnetic equivalent circuit (MEC) has been modified to account for high local saturation in the pole tips and to model the field gradient in the airgap more accurately. Significant accuracy improvement has been gained compared with the conventional MEC method. The model is simple and computational time is low. The model has been used for prediction of SR motor characteristics
