  • Abstract
    The scheme based on the inertial measurement of measurement while drilling (MWD) is the developing direction of MWD, but the gyroscope is the bottleneck which arbitrarily restricts the application of the scheme. This paper discusses on the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) consisting of three fiber optic gyroscope and three accelerometers, as well as the measurement while drilling algorithm based on the IMU. In the structural design of this system, IMU rotating framework is utilized to modulate the output signal of the FOG, which will reduce the constant drift of gyroscopes and improve the accuracy of the attitude angle and well trajectory. What´s more, the paper simulates the MWD algorithm with and without the rotating modulation, and proves the accuracy and effectiveness of the algorithm with the rotating modulation.
