Abstract :
We discuss the applicability of a recently presented black box model for semiconductor optical amplifiers for the modeling of the amplifier´s noise. We show that this BBM works if the ASE output power can be approximated by the equivalent input noise model. For this purpose we first rederive the BBM, showing the spectral functional forms used in it and its experimental validation.
