On the generation of classical Lie groups and Lie algebras

We consider the problem of accessibility and controllability of bilinear systems evolving on Lie groups whose Lie algebras are the normal real forms of complex simple Lie algebras. We describe results by other authors concerning both the accessibility and controllability problems, and derive further results by weakening and reinterpreting the hypotheses.
