Abstract
An over-layered planar transmission line transformer obtained by deposition of high dielectric constant thin films over the conductors printed on alumina substrates is proposed. The resulting effective dielectric constant becomes very high, dispersion is very low, and the cutoff frequency of higher order modes is significantly increased. The theoretical behavior of this device was investigated using the simulator HP-HFSS and the results were compared to those obtained for a coplanar transmission line transformer printed on conventional bulk substrate with relative dielectric constant of 80
