Abstract :
Currently a lot of research is done on a future Universal Mobile Communication System (UMTS), which is a third generation system. An important research topic is to determine a suitable and flexible multiple access technique. The performance of a multi-user receiver in combination with a groupwise successive interference cancellation (CSIC) scheme for a DS/CDMA system is investigated. An analysis of the GSIC scheme is presented for BPSK modulation under Rayleigh fading in an asynchronous channel. The GSIC scheme results in a considerable reduction of the hardware complexity. A performance comparison with a SIC scheme without grouping is done. Numerical results show that the system performance of the GSIC scheme approaches the performance of the SIC scheme, when the group size is not too large
