    Summary form only given. Ultrasonic sensors are among those sensors that are used in robotics applications for providing successful distance determination. The operation of these sensors can be easily controlled using an embedded computing system. Development of a robotic vehicle with distance-sensing capability requires a good background in ultrasonic technology and embedded systems. The goal of this abstract is to impart to students an introduction to ultrasonics using an embedded system to sense distance. A brief hardware design using ultrasonic sensors and electronic circuits, comprised of a sonar system and microcontroller unit, is described.
