Abstract
This paper describes a novel form of switched reluctance motor and considers its suitability for an electric vehicle drive application. The paper first describes the principles of operation and then progresses to compare the new machine with both conventional SRMs and permanent magnet machines, examining both torque density achieved within the machine and converter volt-ampere requirement in the power electronic converter
