Abstract :
Following his energetic policy concerning the renewable expansion, Romania is in front of an explosive development of wind farms. If in 2007 the total installed wind capacity was 7 MW while at the middle of 2008 it was noticed a requirement of grid access for more than 10,000 MW wind farm installed capacity. This situation requires modifications in the future structure of the power generation and operation of the power system in order to fulfil the requirements concerning the secure operation of the power system imposed by the UCTE member condition and the energy market rules. The purpose of the present paper is to present the main particularities of wind capacity in Romania and the problems of wind energy integration in Romanian electrical system, the actual solution for the further secure network operation with of not dispatched power sources, the need of reserve power for compensation of power fluctuations. The challenge for Romania in wind farm integration is not only the assurance the access to the grid and grid development, but also the development of the whole system in direction of: flexibility of supply, operation (assurance of needed reserves), system of measurement and control and market energy based on balance responsibility.
