Abstract :
The performance of various adaptive equalization strategies for broadband fixed radio systems to be used in the last mile is compared. Results are presented comparing linear equalizers with decision feedback equalizers and comparing the coefficient adjustments according to the zero forcing criterion with the mean squared error criterion. The performance measure is the resulting signal to noise and interference ratio at the decision device. The influence of the number of equalizer taps is shown as well as the effect of varying the rolloff factor of the transmit and receive filters. The performance of the LMS algorithm and of the RLS algorithm in terms of convergence speed is shown. The paper closes with a discussion of various fast least squares algorithms
