Abstract :
This paper presents the real-time analysis for moving laser speckle patterns by using image processing techniques. Based on the characteristics of repeatable and correlated patterns, the method of dynamic correlation matching is adopted to develop precision positioning rules for laser speckle patterns. This is to verify that the image capturing device for invariant laser speckle patterns can not only be used for laser optical mice, but also can be applied for precision positioning. Experimental results demonstrate that accurate direction and displacement information of moving speckle patterns can be obtained in real-time and this can be used to correctly drive the computer cursor like operating a real computer mouse. Therefore, the proposed system design is suitable for developing applications of precision positioning in the future.
