Abstract :
A ten year follow-up study of a course taught to seventeen women over thirty to introduce them to mechanical engineering technology and computer aided design was conducted to assess the effectiveness the course had in achieving the goal of increasing the number of female students in the Mechanical Engineering Technology Department of New York City Technical College, where few women have taken advantage of the educational programs offered. Although none of the women in this experimental course pursued careers in mechanical engineering or computer aided design drafting/computer aided manufacturing, it was successful since it opened up opportunities and led to advancement and recognition these women might not have had otherwise
