Abstract :
The paper proposes a control scheme to mitigate inter area oscillations in large power systems. Our control strategy consists of an online determination of critical oscillation´s frequency and phase, and a synthesis of the modulation signal for a SVC that uses a bang-bang controller. The algorithm to determine the controller´s exact switching times is provided. Simulation results show that the controller´s performance is robust to changes in system´s operating points. Moreover, the proposed control scheme allows several controllers to react simultaneously, therefore better damping effects can be achieved.
