Abstract :
Based on several photographs and clippings which span a period of over fifty years, a dozen newspapers will touch on some of the highlights and unusual aspects of the author´s engineering career, as well as the careers of her two engineering daughters. The author´s scrapbook begins with publicity she received after winning engineering school scholarships, and later, was the first woman to graduate from the Columbia University School of Engineering. It includes letters addressed to “Dear Sir”, award of the “women´s badge” of Tau Beta Pi, stories about her work at Bell Telephone Laboratories and Sperry Gyroscope Company, and her teaching career at Fairleigh Dickinson University. The author discusses the changes she has seen in women´s roles in engineering during the past fifty-five years (1943-98), from her perspectives as a former woman engineer in industry, a current engineering professor, and as the mother of two women engineers
