Abstract
In the distributed queue dual bus protocol, a user packet is partitioned into several fixed-size segments. The protocol is shown to provide excellent delay performance of individual segments from its distributed first come, first serve access capability. The performance of the DQDB protocol is examined by both approximate analysis and simulation. The results show that packet delays are generally independent of network size and dependent only on packet size. Comparisons with a token ring network are made. It is observed that network and traffic parameters strongly influence resulting performance and that a general comparison can be misleading
