Abstract
Recently, in the midst of controversies concerning environmental problems and the necessity diversification, electric vehicles (EV) have been in the limelight for their features of environmental preservation, high energy efficiency, and, above all, high effectiveness in promoting the leveling of daily electric power loads. The EV under development by the authors use conventional 1500 [cc] class displacement cars as the base vehicles with a motor substituting the gasoline engine. Furthermore, the authors adopted a brushless DC motor to facilitate the reduction in the size and weight and increase in the efficiency of the driving system to be installed in the EV. This paper gives the outline of this driving system, and then describes the motor, focusing on its components and features, including the results of evaluation tests
