Abstract
Reliability centered maintenance (RCM) is a method of preserving functional integrity. it uses a structured review of maintenance practices to ensure these practices reduce undesirable failures. It is organized common sense and uses many of the maintenance practices that now exist coupled with a logic based linking of maintenance with failure causes. The RCM methodology is selected with the goal of reducing maintenance costs or prioritizing the most appropriate maintenance tasks for the same cost. RCM is used where reliability is important and the consequence of failures is important or critical. RCM can be used to prioritize maintenance tasks where diminishing skilled resources and budgets exist
