Abstract :
The authors introduce the TOPICA project which attempts to build an idea-accelerator to support human creativity near the origin of ideas. Specifically, TOPICA attempts to discover the novelty and superiority of an idea and to create a persuasive presentation of intelligent documents (patent application, treatise, proposal of plan, and so on). TOPICA provides two kinds of elemental supports. One obtains ideas by searching knowledge bases, by analogy, visualization, change of viewpoint, association, and so on. This is necessary because the user´s searching strategy is often optimized and fixed in the course of daily activities. The other is supported for escape from the `daily´ state of mind, that is: (1) release from restraints that prevent heterodox ideas, and (2) psychological acceleration by encouragement, pressure of deadline, stirring curiosity, and so on
