Abstract :
The expansion and control framework, which allows managers to identify the stage of growth of an emerging technology along with alternative strategies for effectively managing that technology, is discussed. Data from 18 firms regarding the specific management actions they have taken over a nine-year period is used to discuss the framework and its applicability for explaining the management of end-user computing technologies. Conclusions are drawn from an examination of both individual and aggregate findings relating to degree of expansion vs. degree of control
