Abstract
Digital control technology appears mature, but projects still hit problems. Often, these do not become apparent until plant commissioning, when corrective action is costly. Most problems appear avoidable, by selecting appropriate technology and by incorporating operational experience into the design of applications. This paper seeks to demonstrate that delivering robust, operable control systems requires a structured and pragmatic methodology, but need not cost more
