Abstract
The paper presents an expert system developed using the programming language DELPHI. The program package is a fault diagnosis expert system (FDES version 2) as upgrading of our FDES version 1. FDES-2 identifies the faulted section of a power system, the type of fault, the faulted phases and the fault distance on the transmission line measured from each of its nodes. The heart of the proposed system package consists of an expert system, which takes decisions depending on a general knowledge base, general inference mechanism, database and algorithmic programs, which compute the network currents and voltages during the fault in case of the offline operation of the program. But for the case of the online operation of the program, a suitable data acquisition system provides the expert system with network status concerning breakers, currents and voltages.
