Abstract :
Trellis shaping (TS) is known as one of flexible methods to reduce peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of OFDM signals. However, the complexity of the conventional TS based on the Viterbi algorithm (VA) increases substantially as one increases the number of trellis states for improved PAPR reduction performance. In this paper, we consider the application of M-algorithm to the TS for possible computational reduction. It is observed that the use of M-algorithm results in effective reduction of computation compared to the VA with comparable peak power reduction performance. The two contrastive metrics in time and frequency domain proposed in the literature are also investigated for comparison.
