Abstract
A recursive technique is used to estimate the probability density function (PDF) of intersymbol interference due to incorrect symbol decisions in decision feedback equalization. The PDF approximations are then used to calculate the average symbol error rate of a decision feedback equalizer. The symbol error probabilities computed this way are found to be very close to the ones obtained by simulations
