Abstract
This paper presents a simplified peripheral port feeding network for use in the design of N-way conical line power combiners. The traditional shorted probe type feed is replaced by an open circuit in the coaxial feed which is optimized externally in a circuit optimizer to achieve a wide operating bandwidth without the need for any full wave parameter sweeps or optimization. Furthermore, an increase in combining structure impedance can allow for more accurate assembly and thus more predictable performance. Full wave simulated results agree well with the circuit models, where a -15 dB return loss bandwidth of 70% is achieved at X-band.
