Abstract
Ethernet standard is gaining acceptance in industrial networks. This standardization eases the interconnection among different departments, areas, buildings and companies. So, in this context, the protection against data espionage and data manipulation is a vital key. The system-on-programmable- chip technology is flexible enough to provide scalable solutions to securize the heterogeneous devices connected to these networks and powerful enough to ensure a minimum data throughput. In this paper, we propose a novel hardware architecture (IP core) to cipher the communication between two devices connected to a conventional Ethernet network structure. This architecture is optimized to be implemented using reconfigurable devices and it can be replicated to obtain multi-channel crypto-bridges embedded in a single chip. The hardware description of the different modules (cryptographic algorithms, controllers, etc.) used in this approach is open source. The proposal is validated with four implementations.
