Abstract :
Superconducting cables have been under development for transmission and distribution applications for many years. This paper will discuss an innovative Tri-Axial design in which all three electrical phases are placed concentrically on one cable core. The triax HTS cable was installed at American Electric Power and placed in service August 2006. The cable is rated 13.2 kV, 3.0 kA.
