Abstract :
In this paper we consider OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) and SC-FDE (Single-Carrier with Frequency-Domain Equalization) schemes where the channel is estimated with the help of training blocks multiplexed with data blocks. It is shown that SC-FDE schemes need more accurate channel estimates than OFDM schemes with the same constellation. To improve the performance, we consider iterative receivers with joint detection and channel estimation. Our receivers allow significant performance improvements, for both OFDM and SC-FDE, with OFDM slightly outperforming SC-FDE.
