Abstract :
In this work we developed new integrated microwave photonic phase shifters on polymer waveguides. A phase shift at 1550 nm can be induced in PMMA waveguide when it is pumped at 1310 nm due to the refractive index changes provoked by heating. Such a shift can be controlled with the length of the waveguide or the frequency of the microwave signal; or it can be enhanced by doping the polymer with colloidal quantum dots (QDs) with absorption at the pumping wavelength. In this way, absorption in the nanocrystals deal that PbS-PMMA waveguides show phase shift up to 13°, while the figure of merit measured in PMMA samples was reduced to 5°. This paper presents the potential of this novel active waveguides for microwave photonic applications.
