Abstract :
A new approach to time-difference-of-arrival (TDOA) estimation for modulated signals is proposed. Unlike most previous approaches based on the auto- and cross-correlation functions or auto- and cross-spectra for the signals from a pair of sensors, the new approach is based on the cyclic auto- and cross-correlation functions or cyclic auto- and cross-spectra. The proposed approach exploits the spectral coherence property exhibited by modulated signals by virtue of their cyclostationarity. That is, cyclostationary processes are correlated with certain frequency-shifted as well as time-shifted versions of themselves
