  • Abstract
This paper presents an approach for VLSI implementation of high speed delta operator realized digital filters. Although the use of delta operator in digital filter realizations has received interest in technical literature recently, less attention has been paid to the implementation of delta operator realized digital filters. The main focus in this paper is on the implementation of delta realized direct form II transposed (DFIIt) structure, which has been found to provide excellent roundoff noise performance in narrowband digital filtering applications. The results show that in such applications, where the sampling rate is high compared to the underlying signal bandwidth, the use of delta operator results in up to 40% savings in silicon area compared to delay realizations with equal roundoff noise performance
