Abstract :
In this paper a novel Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol for vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs) that uses the Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) standards, is proposed. This protocol is a new Self-organized TDMA (STDMA) based MAC protocol with the ability of providing both reliable and real-time inter-vehicle communications, simultaneously. The proposed protocol takes advantage of both CSMA and TDMA MAC protocols´ characteristics to hit the intelligent transportation systems requirements. Simulation results show that our proposed protocol provides real-time inter-vehicle communications while its throughput is higher than the traditional CSMA/CA ones.
