Abstract :
This paper introduces a new approach for implementing high-speed communications within a chip: in particular, the Manhattan street network (MSN) with the clockwork routing scheme is proposed as a particularly suitable candidate for use in high-speed networks. Significantly, the MSN has a contention-free network layer that removes the need for storage at routing nodes, whilst the throughput is comparable with conventional schemes. Moreover, this paper presents a quantitative comparison of techniques for providing medium access control under stringent performance requirements.
