Abstract :
This work presents a simulation analysis of AC motor drive systems based on single-phase to three phase converters with soft-start procedures. The purpose is to identify capabilities for a proper topology selection which can suit rural applications. Six topologies with economic features are analyzed while driving a squirrel-cage induction motor with a load torque proportional to the square of the angular speed. Design guidelines and control strategies are presented. Complete models are implemented in an electromagnetic transient simulation package (PSCAD/EMTDCtrade)
