Abstract
The age profile of switchgear in the UK, coupled with the drive for increased quality of supply, has given rise to a number of options being considered by electric utility asset managers. The choice of which option depends upon many factors: age and condition of equipment; system configuration; outage constraints; plant life; capital funding; health and safety; and system performance. The author has been involved with a whole range of solutions, overhaul/refurbishment, retrofit and replacement with new equipment. The paper highlights four examples of different solutions being implemented
