Abstract
This paper provides an overview of INTELSAT´s initiatives associated with Internet services via satellite. In order to meet customer needs associated with the rapid growth of the Internet worldwide, INTELSAT has undertaken an effort to develop a product line specifically tailored to this market. This product line-@intelsat-blends the quality and expertise associated with INTELSAT´s existing transport services (IDR, IBS, Leases), with value-added services that are extremely important for the Internet customer: pre-engineered solutions, technical support, documentation, and Internet specific signatory assistance programs. Since the Internet market has been evolving at an incredible pace, INTELSAT will continue with major efforts to update and expand its Internet product line. In this regard, INTELSAT is evaluating other opportunities associated with multicasting, Internet direct to home (DTH) systems, and combinations of VSATs with wireless terrestrial extensions, to further expand the opportunities for Internet via satellite services.
