Abstract
Many types of microgeneration technologies are interfaced with the low-voltage distribution network through power electronic converters. The converter provides conversion of the microsource frequency to the conventional power system frequency of 50/60 Hz, and controls the power exchange between the generator and the load/utility system. A power factor control strategy is presented, which demonstrates that with adequate control the converter can efficiently transfer the dc energy from the microsource and improve the voltage stability and power quality of the electrical system. The applicability of the proposed control scheme is assessed through digital simulations studies conducted in PSCAD/EMTDC.
