  • Abstract
It is of great significance to install Energy storage systems (ESS) in wind power plants because the electric power generated by wind turbines is highly unpredictable due to stochastic nature of wind and affects both the power quality and power systems planning. By controlling output of wind power plants and providing necessary support to the power system, ESS can play a very vital role in wind power applications to increase penetration of wind power in the present power system. In this paper various systems being used at present, for storing electrical energy generated by wind power plant along with their operating principle, main characteristics of ESS suitable for static applications according to literature review, have been discussed.
