  • Abstract
A small and lightweight electric wheelchair has been developed. This can move the rider at will, back and forth and even sideways. Elderly people who have physical troubles can enjoy free mobility with this wheelchair either in workplace or at home. Two powered wheel steering units are attached to the front part and the rear of the wheelchair. Since its mechanism is simple, its application to any cart which needs omni-directional motion is also possible. This paper shows its mechanism and control system based on our patents (#2001-402222 and #2002-296756) and describes expected markets with a business model.
