  • Abstract
An analytical model previously developed analyzed a case which included only two base stations (BS). The algorithm was based on the difference in signal levels between the two BS and the necessity of the handover by comparing the averaged absolute signal level with a threshold before the handover initiation. In this paper, we extend the analysis by generalizing the model to analyze handover algorithms in a multiple BS case. In addition to the above criterion, a BS is chosen as a candidate only if and it has the strongest signal strength amongst a list of all candidate BS. The validity of the results from the analytic model is verified with simulations. Probability of handoffs and BS assignments are compared. The effect of adding a base station is illustrated
