Abstract :
This paper presents the implementation of Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) on FPGA using Coordinate Rotation Digital Computer (CORDIC) algorithm for the application of Single Phase Matrix Converter (SPMC). The CORDIC is used here to replace common technique i.e Look-Up Table (LUT) technique in generating the sinusoidal wave used in SPWM. The SPWM has been implemented on ALTERA´s Cyclone II (EP2C70F896C6) and it shows that the number of memory bits used in FPGA can be significantly reduced if CORDIC is used compared to calculated tables techniques which requires excessive memory usage when better resolution is employed.
