  • Abstract
We combine the notion of generalized non-separability and the SVD for designing the class of 2D kernels which satisfies the diamond halfband condition. Such kernels are used in video sampling structure conversion and also for designing nonseparable 2D perfect reconstruction filter banks. The new design technique is called directional SVD because it performs the decomposition along directions which are natural for the problem at hand. The steps for performing the directional SVD are given. Numerical design examples show its superiority over the normal SVD
