Abstract
This paper discusses design equations and dynamic models for three-phase alternators using the graphical user interface provided by the Design Center 3, Release 6.1, environment on a PC running MS-Windows. The Design Center 3 includes the well known PSpice code for electric circuit analysis. The examples given here run on the evaluation version of the software which can be distributed free of charge. Models for 3-phase, cylindrical rotor machines are presented. The paper shows results of dynamic behavior including voltage, current and torque traces. Along with the design equations, some typical values for the circuit parameters used in the model are given in normalized form. In addition some empirical equations, together with some typical time constants, are presented.
