Abstract :
Resonant converter topologies may be used for applications in pulse power systems. They are of three types: series loaded, parallel-loaded and series-parallel loaded. A circuit has been built that incorporates the third type, the concept of splitting the resonant circuit capacitance into a series component and a parallel component. The switching scheme presented for this design provides a discontinuous mode of operation with constant on-time constant frequency operation. The design, operation, and control of the series-parallel power converter along with the output test results proves that this topology offers an effective way of charging energy storage capacitors to voltage levels of the order of 3 kV
