  • Abstract
The Generation Expansion Planning (GEP) problem helps in determining the type of technology, size, location and time at which new generation units must be integrated to a power system, over a given planning prospect, to gratify the forecasted energy demand. It is a part of Power System Planning which is conceded out when there is an increase in the load demand, i.e. when the existing Power System units are unable to meet an increase in energy demand. This paper deals with the expansion planning of a single bus wherein new generating units are to be connected to an existing unit so that the total load demand is met. The load forecast is made for a year and hence static planning approach is applied to obtain the solution. Also, after expansion, as reliability of the system changes, with new units being connected to the existing units, hence, assessment of reliability of the expanded single bus is carried out.
