Abstract
In this paper, the multiresolution analysis technique is applied to detect and localize different Power Quality (PQ) disturbances. Ten types of PQ events such as voltage sag, swell, interruption, harmonic, sag with harmonics and swell with harmonics, notch etc are analyzed using both Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and Second Generation Wavelet Transform (SGWT). Each signal is decomposed upto four finer levels in both DWT and SGWT and also running time for decomposition is measured at four different instants in both the cases. It is shown that SGWT is more efficient and also faster as compared to the traditional Wavelet Transform (WT).
