Abstract :
This paper presents modifications in design of claw poles in Lundell generator by strategically using anisotropic steel sheets to reduce the leakage flux and hence improve alternator efficiency. Laminated layers of anisotropic steel sheets on the sides of claws are used to reduce leakage flux between the claw poles and same will also enhance the generator output capability. Magnetic field simulations are carried out for current design and modified design to ascertain the effectiveness of the method. A general design of claw poles is considered. This method will affect different designs up to different extent. Design modifications are so suggested which upon realization would require very little change in existing manufacturing infrastructure.
