Abstract :
In the present paper we discussed the operating performance uncertainty in queues using principle of maximum entropy. Entropy was discussed by Shannon (1948) in information theory to measure message uncertainty and communication channel uncertainty. Since the concept of steady-state of a queue concern a probability function, it seems logical to consider a connection between entropy and uncertainty in queueing system. This paper presents an entropy based uncertainty metric for measuring the operating performance in queueing system, when the prior information available is in the form of mean arrival rate, mean service rate distribution.
